Time To Dress Up (Lacie and Daryl)

Lacie had hoped that Daryl would like to come with her on a shopping trip but besides the very grumbly response he hadn't actually put up that much of a struggle, maybe he actually realised that he did need some clothes that were a little more accommodating for the winter months, after all shirts with no sleeves were all well and good in the summer, but now it was getting colder she wanted to make sure that he had enough things to keep him warm, her clothes needed updating as well, they were far from warm and comfortable.

Now they were approaching the large store, Lacie grinned and she knew that she would be told to check for zombie, so peeking into the entrance of the store which had been kicked in a long time ago, she waited to see if anything would react to the small can that she threw into the darkness, if there were zombies in there they would be drawn towards the sound. Low and behold there were shuffles, and the shuffles became grunts and groans as three zombies appeared.

Taking out her cards she swiftly threw them through the air, making a small sound as she did so, squeaking in happiness when she managed to take out the zombies, Lacie looked back at Daryl and waited to see if he would be proud of her or not, she hoped that he would be, she had been trying to hard to fit into this world now and not be some sort of liability to the man that she loved.

"You ready to go shopping Daryl?" she asked with a happy laugh.

Daryl had never really been one for shopping back when the world wasn't a shit hole filled with zombies but instead a shit hole filled with people being complete assholes instead. He thought that maybe he'd enjoy shopping with the zombies more enjoyable. After all if they cut him up in a store he could stomp their asses without spending any time in prison for assault or anything stupid like that.

He was happily surprised when she took out the can and attracted the zombies in the store like he had taught her to but was not so quietly surprised when she took them all out in one go. Darly whistled in appreciation and gave her a smirk. It was a smirk that said she'd done a very good job. When she mentioned shopping again he moaned lightly before nodding,

"Yea well let's see wat they got an' then we can see if we get anyting yea?"

Lacie could tell that Daryl was less than enthused by the idea of shopping, after all he seemed the type to just wear the same shirt until it fell apart, however she knew that like he was training her to be better at killing zombies, he had to be good at also knowing what he needed to do to survive, Lacie was the smarts in that sense, as he had often told her.

The results of her smarts were growing in their back garden, the fresh fruits and vegetables that she had planted were beginning to grow, soon they would be able to harvest them and they would get all the vitamins that they needed, the ones that the pills just wouldn't provide for them.

"Well this is a department store Daryl, they've got everything." she chided gently but wandered into the store anyway, the daylight trickled through the windows, showing the dust on the shelves, but she glanced at the floor map and pointed to the floor one layer down.

"The mens floor is downstairs, so we will go there first and see if there's anything for you down there, okay? Then we'll come back up here and we will see if I can get some new winter clothes, we'll both need them now it's getting colder."

Making her way down the static escalator, Lacie held out her hand for Daryl to hold.

Daryl wasn't used to shopping in any conditions, even zombie conditions, but he supposed that if Lacie thought it was a good idea then he would go along with it. The girl knew things about surviving he didn't purely because of the extra schooling she'd had, giving her a much greater edge over him. Thankfully they both recognised their talents and were able to suit their relationship to them when fighting or scavenging.

One example was the little veg garden she had growing round the back of their safe house. That wasn't something he'd have done because, honestly, he was happy without doing anything like that. Wasn't something he liked the taste of either, being a mostly meat-eating kind of guy.

"Oh... well then let's get our asses down te the mens." he agreed with her as he looked around, making sure to have their back covered just in case. Seeing her hand out for him, he held her hand as they made their way downstairs, "Wat sor' o ting did yer have in min'?"

Lacie smiled happily when Daryl asked her what sort of clothes that she had in mind, as soon as they hit the bottom of the escalator, the light from the windows still filtered down and she could see pretty well, she supposed that this might have been in case of a powercut, people could still see their way around in the store to an exit even in the windowless mens floor downstairs.

Immediately she began looking around for what it was that they would be needing to get, even if Daryl would hate wearing the clothes, he would need to when the weather was drawing in closer, and there was no heating to be found.

"Well we need to find you some clothes with sleeves on first." she giggled "You need to keep yourself warm so it'll be jumpers and maybe some lightweight waterproof coats, for when you go out scavenging. We don't want you being weight down too much, but you need to keep yourself healthy."

Spotting something like what she had just described, she held up a thin, but padded navy blue messenger coat, and she modelled it on the hanger to Daryl.

"Whatcha think?" she asked with a happy smile.

Daryl was a little bit more on edge now that they were down on the bottom floor. It felt like it was underground, which is was, and that meant a natural lack of natural light. When natural light was pretty much all you had the lack of it tended to make you a bit edgy. Especially when you were a tracker like Daryl since it effectively cut out one of your main senses and made it harder to track.

The weather in Britain was a curse though, it was getting colder faster than it ever had done in America. It was strange to think that it was only just nearing the end of summer as frost was beginning to appear on the ground in the mornings. What kind of weather was that?

"The waterproofs I agree wit but the jumpers? Aren't tey like... sweaters?" he shivered at the very thought of wearing something like that, "Nah. Lon' sleeved shirs and sheet yea. No sweaters."

When she held up the messenger coat Daryl had to admit that it didn't seem too bad. He looked up over, feeling the material before nodding,

"Not bad. Take it yea?"

Lacie raised an eyebrow when Daryl said that he didn't want to wear sweaters, and she frowned at him she hoped that he would be able to get over his irrational fashion fears, he needed to wear what he needed to wear and jumpers were one thing that he was going to have to get used to wearing, shirts after all weren't very warm.

"Well I'm sorry Daryl but you'll be thanking me when it comes to those cold nights at home and you're wishing you got some jumpers, how about we look for some hoodies?" she asked, trying to make a compromise "They're not so geeky, but they can be as warm and comfortable as lots of jumpers, more so even!"

With a happy smile Lacie placed it in the large wheelie case that she had found in the corner of the store she had just been it, it seemed that some people have had the same idea that they were having at the moment,filling it with as much stuff as possible.

"Okay, I'll pack the coat for you, navy suits you Daryl, that and dark green I think." she smiled shyly "Anything you want for yourself? Instead of me just picking for you?"
